This order can differ from the order in which the pushes occurred.įor example, consider two builds, A and B. If this situation occurs, the different versions of your app deploy to Heroku in the order in which their respective builds complete. For example, two collaborators on an app push different commits to the heroku remote at roughly the same time. It’s possible to initiate a deploy before a previous deploy of the same app completes. To deploy code to Heroku from a non- main branch of your local repository (for example, testbranch), use the following syntax push it to the remote’s main branch: $ git push heroku testbranch:main Pushing code to another branch of the heroku remote has no effect. In this case, each Heroku app has its own remote in your local repository. Renaming your Heroku remote can be handy if you have multiple Heroku apps that use the same codebase. ![]() Wil looked through the window, into the garden. His name was John Baldock, also a software engineer, and originally from Devon. ![]() A whey-faced young man – he looked to be in his 20s or early 30s – stood outside a handsome townhouse, trembling and silent. That’s definitely what this is.’” Wil followed the police car, which led him to Offerton Road, 300 metres away from his home. “As I went around the next road,” recalled Wil, “a police car came screaming past in the opposite direction and very nearly clipped my handlebars. On closer inspection, it was covered in dust. At one point, he found a rucksack lying in the road, and felt a surge of relief. Wil went out on his motorbike, hoping he would “see a bag lying on the road, praying it was just a bag or a coat or something,” he said. Wil took a screenshot of the flight app notification, and his housemate called the police to give them the details: Kenya Airways flight KQ 100, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that had left Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International airport eight hours and six minutes earlier, at 9.35am local time. “I was convinced that it was a human body.” “In the last second or two of it falling, I saw limbs,” said Wil. He didn’t want to believe it, but as the object got nearer and nearer, it became impossible to deny. But then he half-remembered an article he had read years before, about people stowing away on planes. “But after a few seconds it turned into quite a large object, and it was falling fast.” Maybe a piece of machinery had fallen from the landing gear, he thought, or a suitcase from the cargo hold. “At first I thought it was a bag,” he said. He tested the app on one plane, and then held his phone up again, shielding his eyes from the sun and squinting into the sky. On his phone, Wil showed his housemate an app that tells users the route and model of any passing plane. As he chatted to his housemate in the sunshine, planes on their way to Heathrow airport made their final approach overhead. I t was Sunday 30 June 2019, a balmy summer’s afternoon, and Wil, a 31-year-old software engineer, was lounging on an inflatable airbed outside his house in Clapham, south-west London. Thankfully, the pace of the game is easy to pick up after a few plays against the AI, and strategizing on a constant basis starts coming naturally. Given the lack of having to move things around and watching animations, there’s not much downtime to Lux Delux, and so you’re going to have to be on your toes constantly. Moving troops is just two clicks away, and once that’s done, the game automatically carries out all the rolls for you. The gameplay itself is fast-paced and action packed, with the focus mostly being on the strategy rather than the hoopla. The game itself is really well optimized, so it doesn’t take almost any resources to run. So now that you know what Lux Delux is at its core, let’s go into actually playing it. Fortunately, with the recent addition to Steam, the Lux Delux community is doing well, and you aren’t likely to run into too many empty lobbies. There’s not much to say other than it’s exactly like the single player except you can play against real people. So really, there’s a lot to be had from just changing around and trying out AI, even on just one individual map.Ĭoming back to multiplayer, like any other game, you have the chance of being teamed up with up to six other players and AI of your liking. In fact, in 2015 there was an AI added that uses Monte Carlo Tree Search algorithms, meaning it gets smarter the longer you play it. Just as a quick aside, and to testify to Lux Delux’s community input, even AI can be designed and uploaded by players. You might have one AI that prefers an incredibly aggressive approach, another that prefers defense, and yet another that just like’s consolidating its gains whenever it has them. Unlike other Risk video games, the AI here are fantastically smart, and even have their own personalities, built around historical figures. Single player is almost exactly what you expect, placed on the map and paired up against a number of AI opponents. Playing Risk: Lux Deluxīeing a game that has online access, you get to have both the option of single player mode and multiplayer mode. ![]() Once you’re done with the map, you just upload it, and you’re done! Map ready to be played by you, your friends, and the wide Lux Delux community. Along with the creative freedom, you have with the graphics, Lux Delux’s development kit allows you to alter territories mechanically, such as having biohazard zones and what not. ![]() The great part about all of this is that you can create your own maps for other people to play. Not only that but maps have their own individuality, with sprites representing the thematic concept of the map, like little WWI or even orcs and trolls. Supporting over 800 maps from space maps with hexagonal tiles to different continents with square tiles, or even to fantasy maps with just simply weird tiles, there’s definitely something in there for everyone. So what is Risk: Lux Delux exactly? Well, it’s a Risk spin-off that focuses mostly on bringing you a ton of different maps to play on. That being said, if it is an issue for you, and you can overcome it, you’re going to be rewarded with some really great variety. If you really enjoy the animations of other Risk video games or watching the rolls whenever there are battles, then this game really isn’t for you. Now before we begin, there’s a little bit of a warning when to comes to Lux Delux, in that it’s a very minimalist straightforward Risk concept. □ (play risk online at major command game!)įortunately, this game has being updated, even over a decade after its release, and has even managed to come to Steam in 2015. ![]() Of course, it doesn’t compare to the variety of options that a game of RISK online at Major Command can offer! But let’s not promote ourselves too much. Originally released in 2002 by developer SillySoft, this entry into Risk video game will surely quench some of your thirst when it comes to branching out from the traditional Risk maps and gameplay. Risk: Lux Delux – While there are an almost endless amount of Risk variation board games out there, sometimes a Risk game player just wants more, and this is where Lux Delux comes in. This one-way valve allows current to flow from the solar panel to the battery, but does not allow current to flow backwards out of the battery through the solar panel. Between the two is a “reverse blocking” diode. In this circuit the solar panel charges up a 3-cell NiMH battery (3.6 V). In this next circuit, we use the solar panel to charge up a NiMH rechargeable battery and also LED off of the power, which will stay on when it gets dark out. A rechargeable battery can of course provide that function, and also provides a fairly consistent output voltage that a capacitor cannot. While interruption resistance is nice, a capacitor generally does not provide sufficient energy storage to power a solar circuit for extended periods of time in the dark. After it’s fully charged, the circuit can be removed from the sunlight and still drive the blue LED for about 30 s to 1 minute– a very effective flywheel for light duty applications. (Note: be careful adding capacitors of different values in series– the voltage ratings may scale in non-obvious ways.) When first exposed to the light, this circuit takes about 30 s to 1 minute to charge the capacitors enough that the LED can turn on. To get around this limitation, we used two of the caps in series, for which the voltage ratings add, giving us a barely-okay total rating of 5.5 V. That’s because the supercaps that we had on hand are rated for 2.75 V– not enough to handle the 4.5 V output of the panel when sunlight is present. Instead of adding a single supercapacitor, you might notice that we’ve actually added two. Our next circuit design adds a supercapacitor as a “flywheel” to provide continued power during brief interruptions. For other cases, like powering a microcontroller or other computer, a brief power interruption can be disruptive. For some applications, like running a small fan or pump, that may be perfectly acceptable. They provide no energy storage, and so are quite vulnerable to blinking out when a bird or cloud passes overhead. The “direct drive” circuits work well for their design function, but are rather basic. (The LED is the same type that we used for our high-power LED blinking circuit.) The reason that we’ve used a high-power LED here is that it can easily withstand 50-90 mA from the solar panel– a “regular” LED designed for 20 mA would be destroyed by that current. On the right we’ve hooked one of the panels right up to a high-power blue LED. When you set it out in the sunlight or bring it close to a lamp, the motor starts to spin. On the left, we’ve hooked up one of our little solar panels directly to a small motor taken from an old CD player. Here are a couple of examples of this in practice: The most obvious way to use power from a solar panel is to connect your load directly to the output leads of the solar panel. ![]() (While you can solder directly to the terminals, be sure to stress-relieve the connections, e.g., with a blob of epoxy over your wires.) In full sunlight the panel is specified to produce 4.5 V at up to 90 mA, although 50 mA seems like a more typical figure. On the back of the panel are two (thin) solderable terminals, with marked polarity. This is a monolithic copper indium diselenide solar panel, apparently printed on a 60mm square of glass and epoxy coated for toughness. The panel that we’re using for these circuits is this one, part number PWR1241 from BG Micro, about $3 each. To keep things simple, we’re using a single nicely made small solar panel for all of these circuits. ![]() ![]() The first part of a solar circuit is… a device for collecting sunlight.
